Assembly Appropriations Committee Puts Expanding Relief…
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE May 23, 2025
… for Families with Low-Incomes on the Back Burner
SACRAMENTO, CA — Today, Prosper California expressed deep disappointment that the Assembly Appropriations Committee held AB 397 (M. González) and AB 398 (Ahrens) in the Suspense File, issuing the following statement:
“Legislative leaders promised to focus on affordability this year, but missed a critical opportunity to uplift California households and families with low incomes struggling to meet their most basic needs now.
“While we are genuinely saddened that the Assembly Appropriations Committee held AB 397 and 398, we are immensely grateful to AB 397 author Asm. González, joint Assemblymember co-authors Celeste Rodriguez, and Sharp-Collins, and more than two dozen co-authors for leading on the gradual expansion of Young Child Tax Credit eligibility. We also sincerely thank Asm. Ahrens who championed increasing the minimum CalEITC credit. We’ll keep fighting to ensure California households and families have the tools they need to afford a roof over their head and food on the table, and to deliver relief to Californians who are worried as the soaring costs of food and utilities make it harder to stretch each paycheck.
“As vital federal safety net programs are under threat, California’s bold leadership is needed now more than ever. As the nation’s fourth-largest economy, we know our state can summon the resources needed to ensure children and families can thrive.”
